Of course Ceri has heard of Eris Halla before, because when there’s a literal child running around the Rocket submarine, people are bound to talk. She had not expected, however, that said child would be one of the people who’d provide samples from the unusual pokémon for the M.A.G.M.A Division’s research sector, and it sure makes her wonder how and why someone so young is in possession of such rare specimens.

But, curious as she may be, that’s none of her business and nor is it her problem.

Her priority here is the pokémon itself and what she may learn from it, so she has readied everything to make sure the kid’s appointment at her lab goes smoothly. The equipment is on the table and there’s even a few lollipops for Eris.

Will she arrive with a chaperone? Ceri kind of hopes so, but regardless, when the door opens, she greets Eris with the brightest smile of all.

M.A.G.M.A is by no means a foreign term to her. In fact, she's heard stories about it floating through the submarine every now and then but this is her first time actually being involved.[break][break]

When they finally pull up to the lab, Eris seems a little nervous but interested nonetheless, returning Ceri Glynn a slightly crooked smile.[break][break]

"Yeah I am!! But what exactly are we gonna be doing?" She hums, ruffling Reiner's mane as she pulls out a few pokeballs. "I brought my Shaymin, Melmetal and a few other friends... And Reiner here has a blessing of sorts from a weird pokemon they called uhm... Enamorus?"

Ceri turns to her left, covering a sneeze. Nothing against the little girl and her fluffy companion, but cats and the scientist’s immune system just don’t agree. Oh well, at least her allergies aren’t all that bad. It could be much worse. She can deal with it.

And, she can specially deal with it for a fluffy cat that apparently had been blessed by Enamorus.

”Oh! Springtide Storm, right? I had a look at another pokémon that had been blessed by Enamorus recently.” She winks at Eris, russet gaze then falling upon the Luxray and back to its short trainer. ”How about we start with your friend Reiner here, then? I just need to weigh him, get a few readings, easy as can be! I even have a few treats for him.”

Shaymin, though? Melmetal? Those pokémon intrigue her for sure. All too well does she remember meeting FERNANDO SILPH’s Shaymin, and according to the data she has collected, Melmetal has some intriguing qualities.

Shame they only have so much time today. Ceri is a busy woman, after all. Priorities are required and samples from other subjects might have to wait.

She turns her gaze to the Luxray, who gives her a lazy yawn in return, his lips pulling taut around the bases of his canines. Then he shakes the tension out of his body, nudging her softly as he leads the way to the weighing machine.[break][break]

And as expected, he's lighter than the average Luxray, his size only bulked up slightly due to his unruly mane. Eris casts a glance at the display, pursing her lips as she thinks long and hard about what she should do to help him grow a little.[break][break]

"Momma used to tell me that he was the smallest of his litter."[break][break]

Reiner snorts in response, shaking his mane out once more.

Despite the fact that the Luxray’s presence always makes her feel as if she’s five seconds away from sneezing, Ceri can acknowledge that it’s a pretty nice pokémon. Which, honestly, is a lot in heer opinion, since lately she’s had to deal with more than a few rambunctious and cantankerous shadow-gene specimens. Those are always a pain, aren’t they?

”Aw, he should be fine. He’s not particularly underweight, just small… If you’re worried, I could look up some nutritional high calorie treats? I can send the list to your dad.”

By which she means Chu-e Choi, of course. Whom, honestly, she’s been dying to meet.

With Reiner’s weight and measurements accounted for and written in her digital chart (yes, that’s what the tablet is for), Ceri moves on to doing a quick and painless Pokérus test, which result would be given to them in a few minutes. During that time, she grabs a cotton swab.

”Okay, Reiner! I need you to open your mouth for me. Can you do that?” Ceri smiles, kneeling in front of the feline.

And it'd serve as an excuse for her to help out more in the kitchen too! Any time she could spend with Chu-e Choi was considered to be the most precious thing in the world.[break][break]

As for Reiner, he's half considering if he should feel threatened by the cotton swab in Ceri Glynn's hand. He's pretty sure that she can't yank out any of his teeth with that - not that Eris would ever let her - but anything that could be related to a dentistry visit does make him nervous. It takes a little reassurance from Eris for him to cooperate, an arm looped around his shoulders as she pats him softly.[break][break]

"Have you seen other pokemon like Reiner? Blessed by Enamorous, I mean? Can you tell them apart from normal mons?"

”Okie dokie, I’ll make sure to look for some nice ones and send them to your dad. I bet Reiner is gonna loooove them.” She smiles at both Eris and the Luxray while getting her sample from Reiner’s cheek, and once this is done and the cotton swab is safely stored, her attention turns to the test.

Once this is done, she checks on the test she had administered earlier.

Just as she had thought: positive for Pokérus-Y. Much like BARNABY FINCH’s Ninetales. Meaning that this Enamorus pokémon really can transmit the virus somehow. Interesting.

”I have, actually! Took samples from Bee’s Ninetales recently. Do you know him? Usually with pokémon that were blessed by Enamorus there’s nothing too obvious at first glance, yeah? But! There are a few signs! Springtide Storm is one, can you guess what the other is?” She asks the little girl with a wink, and it’s for Eris’ own sake that she decides not to take blood or tissue samples today. She wouldn’t want to scare her. Instead, Ceri moves on to do a quick and harmless scan of Reiner’s Infinity Energy readings.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]There's a small questioning growl from Reiner, almost as if he fears the way Ceri Glynn drags out her vowels. But in the end, as soon as she's done with swabbing his cheeks, he's licking them to get rid of the strange, dry sensation.[break][break]

"Bee? Bee... beeeeeee... Barnaby??" The words click, her eye lighting up as she claps her hands together. "Springtide Storm and a side effect... based on what I've seen of my pokemon from the hatchery... he's not shinier than usual so not illumina... not shadow or he'd probably have bitten your hand..."[break][break]

She's thinking hard on the matter, snapping her fingers as she looks at Reiner.[break][break]

"You can't mega evolve... I don't know if Barnaby's Ninetales can pull out a z-move, but technically a whole lot of pokemon can... so uhhh... actually, I did find something in his blood samples, like a weird virus. It hasn't gone away, from all the tests I've done. And the same goes for some of my other hatchery pokemon."[break][break]

Her head tilts as she watches Ceri do some other measurement, a smile tugging at her lips as she gives the Luxray a big hug.[break][break]

"Since we were babies!! Momma gave him to me as a newborn Shinx when I was just born! So we've known each other since foreeeeeever!"

”You took his blood samples? Wow, Eris, that’s awesome! Nice job! Mind if I take some too?” Might as well ask now that the girl herself brought it up, right? Although, admittedly, the surprise and glee in Ceri’s voice is as honest as can be. Children who are interested in science always remind her of herself when she was younger. It’s adorable.

”Yup, that’s it! The virus you found is probably Pokérus-Y. It’s what we call a mutualistic virus. That means that both the host and virus benefit! We’re still studying it to learn everything we can about it, but pokémon that have it seem to grow really really well, so it might help Reiner get bigger and stronger!”

She avoids words like ’infected’ out of concern over causing Eris unneeded worry, for all too well she remembers BARNABY FINCH’s reaction. She also avoids saying it’s completely harmless, though, since that’s something of which they can’t yet be sure.

”As far as I’m aware, all the pokémon blessed by Enamorus have Pokérus-Y. Pretty interesting, no?”
[break][break]
Once all samples are collected and safely stored, Ceri turns to look at the girl once more, and it’s then that she offers her a bright red lollipop.

”You’re twelve, right? That’s a super long time to be friends! I’m glad you and Reiner have each other, Eris! Thank you both for helping me today.”

When she looks to Reiner, the Luxray gives her a hard stare that simply yells 'get me out of here'. Making a gesture of pointing her index finger to her right arm only garners a squint, a flick of his tail and the licking of lips.[break][break]

"Yeah, I don't think he likes needles all that much."[break][break]

A mutualistic existence makes her slightly less worried about what the virus entails but she's still making a mental note to keep an eye on his health. Perhaps, a little more than she usually would.[break][break]

"I can try bringing a fresh blood sample next time but I think he'd destroy a lot of equipment if we poke him." Her fingers wrap around the lollipop, her eye drawn into the bright colouration. "And well, I hope your studies go super well, Miss Ceri!! I'll keep researching on my own too, so maybe we can compare notes next time!"[break][break]

And with a gentle nudge from Reiner, they're both gone right out the door.
